Here's a great essay by author Neil Gaiman about his love of audiobooks:Neil Gaiman Asks: Heard Any Good Books Lately?
From the article: "An audiobook is its own thing, a unique medium that goes in through the ear, sometimes leaving you sitting in the driveway to find out how the story is going to end."
Gaiman is the author of the excellent Anansi Boys, Stardust, and Fragile Things, as well as kids' books The Graveyard Book (which recently won the Newbery medal) and Coraline.
Good article! I wish more people shared the passion Neil Gaiman has for audiobooks. There are so many people that don't realize what they are missing.
ReplyDeleteThe point they make about an audiobook having the wrong reader is valid and one that I believe hurts the audiobook industry. e.g. If a person's first experience with an audiobook is one that doesn't have the right reader they think all audiobooks are like that and don't listen to them anymore. With the price of buying audiobooks it's deters people from giving them a second chance.
Also, I really enjoyed listening to "Anansi Boys". It has an excellent narrator and it's a fun story.
